Cheltenham Racecourse To Be Included in “St Clair” Residential Neighbourhood
15 August 2008
Today the Minister for Urban Development and Planning announced the approval of the Development Plan Amendment for the Cheltenham Park Racecourse, allowing the land to be developed into an exciting and vibrant inner-metropolitan neighbourhood – to be called “St Clair”. The racecourse site will merge directly with the former Sheridan site in Woodville and will include around 20 hectares of landscaped, community open space, wetlands, pedestrian paths and cyclepaths that link into the existing St Clair Reserve.
St Clair will emerge as a whole new suburb in a park-like setting, only 9kms from the Adelaide CBD and 4kms to the beach. St Clair will be Adelaide’s first large scale, inner-metropolitan “water-wise” residential development; the project’s commitment to innovative and sustainable stormwater systems and wetlands will allow stormwater treatment and re-use within the development.
