$50 Million to be Spent on Public Amenities at St Clair in 2012
12 December 2011
More than $50 million will be spent creating new community amenities and infrastructure at St Clair in 2012, with work set to commence on the new Town Centre, St Clair Railway Station and the Wetlands. The construction work on the St Clair Town Centre follows the announcement that Coles plans have been formally approved by the City of Charles Sturt Council. A new full-line 3500sqm Coles supermarket and up to 20 specialty shops and 1650sqm of commercial office space will be developed under the plan. More than 300 car parks will also be established.
The adjacent St Clair Railway Station will include a Station Plaza, convenience stores, local services, outdoor dining, retail kiosk and public art. The new rail station will be linked to St Clair’s extensive walking and cycling trails and has been designed as a “walk up” or “kiss and ride” service, with residents encouraged to walk or cycle to the rail stop rather than drive their own car.
Construction on the new St Clair Train Station is due to start in mid 2012. Next year, work will also continue on the twenty-two hectares of public open space at St Clair with extensions to the walking and cycling trails in the area.
