  • ST CLAIR DEVELOPMENT COMES TO LIFE
    7 May 2010

Work is taking shape on the new St Clair development in Adelaide’s inner west, with the new Sales and Information Centre opening its doors this weekend (Sunday, April 18).

The development, which will feature one of the largest areas of open space within a residential project in Adelaide, has already received overwhelming interest from buyers, with many allotments already sold.

The opening of the Sales and Information Centre also coincides with the release of further allotments in Release 5 of St Clair

As well as the opening of the Sales Centre, several builders will be unveiling display homes on Sunday, offering potential buyers the first chance to see the range of homes on offer at St Clair. Display homes by Hickinbotham, Statesman, Rossdale Homes, AVJennings, Medallion Homes, APS Homes and Scott Salisbury Homes will be open on the day.

St Clair Project Director Rob Bau said the opening of the Sales and Information Centre will offer one of the first chances for potential buyers to see the development taking shape.

“This development will be a showcase in the inner western suburbs and we are planning this open day to showcase the other great aspects of the area,” he said.  “Local restaurants such as the Vietnam and Cotto will be offering food and coffee tastings, while we will also have entertainment by the Woodville High School jazz band and a range of other activities.”

A highlight of the day will be the appearance of renowned South Australian chef Simon Bryant who will be undertaking cooking demonstrations and interacting with guests on the day.

“Simon Bryant is famous for his commitment to ethical food issues and the use of local and organic produce,” Mr Bau said.

“This philosophy is something we are committed to at St Clair with our focus on the environment and sustainable living.”

Other activities on the day include sustainable gardening tips, wine tastings, yoga demonstrations and other entertainment.

St Clair will combine the redevelopment of the former Sheridan site in Woodville and the Cheltenham Racecourse - making it one of the Australia’s largest infill projects - and creating a whole new address in Adelaide’s west.

It will feature more than 22 hectares of open space that have been set aside for new parks and wetlands (between Cheltenham Parade and Actil Avenues).   This open space will become part of the overall 28 hectares of open space being planned to stretch from Woodville Road to Cheltenham Parade (or the equivalent to 14 AAMI Stadiums), ensuring the western suburbs will have significant open space and reserves for the entire community to enjoy.

St Clair is being developed by Joint Venture partners AVJennings and Urban Pacific and will also include approximately 1200 new homes in a wide variety of dwelling styles and price ranges; an urban wetland featuring boardwalks and interpretive trails; stormwater capture via aquifer storage and recycling; large areas of parkland and a retail centre with shops and cafes.

Rob Bau said the St Clair community would enjoy state-of-the-art living, set among newly created parklands and wetlands, along with a new village square featuring shops and cafes.

“Our aim is to ensure St Clair becomes a vibrant inner metropolitan neighbourhood, which will complement the current community and will also offer excellent housing diversity,” Mr Bau said.

“It will have a strong commitment to environmental initiatives, focusing on water conservation.  The project will emerge like a whole new suburb in a park-like setting which we believe will be genuinely beneficial to the wider community because of its accessibility.”

“It is fantastic to be able to welcome potential residents to St Clair this weekend and showcase the features of the development,” he said.

“We have recently started work on one of the many reserves planned for St Clair and people will be able to see the progress of that, while also viewing all the plans we have for environmental initiatives and seeing some of the housing on offer.”

AVJennings South Australian Executive General Manager Brian Virgo said St Clair would be developed to a high standard of architecture and urban design in both public and private spaces.

St Clair will have easy access to schools, transport, West Lakes Shopping Centre and Adelaide’s major sporting venues, as well as only being eight kilometres from the CBD and five to the beach,” Mr Virgo said.

St Clair will be accessible for those wanting to purchase their first home close to the city, with a range of fantastic apartments and terraced homes, while those looking for luxury will also be catered for with high-end homes also available.  We are really looking forward to showcasing some of these options this on the weekend.”

The St Clair development is a joint venture between AVJennings and Urban Pacific, in collaboration with the Government of South Australia through the Land Management Corporation and City of Charles Sturt.

The official opening of the St Clair Sales Centre will be on Sunday, April 18 between 1pm and 5pm at the St Clair Sales Centre, on the corner of Actil Avenue and Brocas Avenue, Woodville.
